Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) deal activity continued its decline; however, funds were infused into more established businesses.
In Q3 2024, the corporate venture capital (CVC) market saw mixed results, with deal activity declining by 1.2% but capital investment rising by 3.2% to $25.8 Bn across 1,056 deals. The market was dominated by North America and Asia which accounted for 86% of total investments. North America led with $15.9 Bn, followed by Asia at $6.3 Bn.
CVC investments were primarily directed toward software, biotech, and semiconductors, which together captured 60% of the total capital. Later-stage investments (Rounds 3 and 4) made up 38% of deals, while early-stage funding (Round 1) saw a 78% year-over-year increase, signaling a growing interest in established startups. Major CVC players like Alphabet, Sumitomo Mitsui, and Salesforce were highly active.
